The cricketer-turned-politician said earlier this year he wish to contest the next Lok Sabha elections in 2019, third in his political career, from his home state, Telangana’s Secunderabad constituency.

Meanwhile Telangana will be having Assembly elections on December 7 in which Congress has stitched up an alliance with rival Telugu Desam Party to take on the Telangana Rashtra Samithi of Chandrasekhar Rao.

The cricketing career of the 55-year-old wrapped up abruptly in the infamous match-fixing scandal in 2000. The Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) banned him for life. In 2012 the Andhra Pradesh High Court declared the ban on Azharuddin as illegal and lifted it.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi approved B M Vinod Kumar and Jaffer Javed as vice presidents of the state unit. He cleared names eight names for general secretaries and four secretaries.
