In a televised speech Nawaz said, “I suport Shehbaz after me but he will take time to contest elections so for the time being I nominate Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.”

Before Shebaz becomes the prime minister of Pakistan he needs to be elected to the national assembly as he holds only a provincial seat.

A fresh election has been announced in the constituency of Nawaz.

In the 70-year history of independent Pakistan half the journey has been paved under military rule. Nawaz became the 15th prime minister of Pakistan and is ousted before completing his term.

Friday’s verdict of Supreme Court cited Nawaz failed to disclose his monthly salary of 10,000 dirhams from a company in the UAE that is owned by his son.

The UAE company and link with Nawaz was exposed following the Panama Papers leak in 2016.
