NCP supremo to meet Sonia Gandhi over Maharashtra government formation

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar is very close to forming the Maharashtra government and he is to meet Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi today for further discussion in the tripartite formula.

The NCP core committee had a meeting Sunday evening at Pawar’s residence and concluded that President’s Rule in the state need to come to an end with the formation of alternative government.

The meeting lasted for more than two hours and was attended by Dilip walse Patil, Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil, Chhagan Bhujbal, Sunil Tatkare, Supriya Sule, Dhananjay Munde and others.

Following the break of alliance of Shiv Sena and BJP over chief minister’s post the political situation in Maharashtra is struck with crisis and possibilities are being worked out of government formation with tripartite formula – NCP, Congress and Sena alliance.

Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said the party is trying to figure out if the formula can workout in forming government.

In the 288-member Assembly BJP secured a comfortable majority with 105 seats while Sena managed winning 56 seats. The Congress was restricted to 44 and NCP to 54.

President’s Rule was imposed on November 12 after neither a party nor an alliance could prove majority in the government formation.
