Netizens Will Get Free, Fair Internet Access- Government

According to telecom secretary Aruna Sundarajan stiff penalties will be levied to any deviations or violations of the net neutrality rules.

The rules include unrestricted and non-discriminatory online access and in matters to critical services like autonomous driving and tele-medicine a committee will look for possible exceptions.

However, as of now remote-diagnostic services, tele-medicine and autonomous driving have been placed into exception list.

Sundarajan added inter-ministerial telecom commission met on Wednesday and noded a go-ahead yes to the net neutrality in India.

Over the months net neutrality has been a contentious issue globally as internet providers and social media giants had shown interest to seek control on delivery of content and services to their respective customers. Such step may lead monopolies and paid prioritization in future.
