Non-Aadhaar SIM Verification Process For NRIs To Be Announced Soon

As of now foreign tourists and NRIs does not require Aadhaar to avail cell phone SIM card and it is learned soon the Indian Telecom Department and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to come up with a verification method for them.

The decision has not yet been taken by the authority and Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said passport authentication could be implemented for SIM verification.

Meanwhile, the government has initiated several measures to make Aadhaar-based re-verification of existing subscribers simply.

Existing mobile consumers need to visit stores of their respective service providers for re-verification and for the disabled, chronically ill as wel as senior citizens the companies need to carry out the exercise at the doorsteps of the subscribers.

It is learned Aadhaar can be linked through OTP, app or IVRS facility.

Prior to making Aadhaar number mandatory to get mobile SIM card a lot of complaints were seen about connections being issued without proper due diligence by the service providers. It was found SIMs were also used by fraudsters and terrorists.

Earlier this year in the month of February the Supreme Court’s observations came following a PIL by Lokniti Foundation.
