NTA To Offer Free Coaching To Students Preparing For JEE, NEET

India’s National Testing Agency will soon convert its thousands of test practice centres into teaching centres to help talented students prepare for JEE, NEET and other higher education entrance exams without paying fees, said HRD ministry official.

There are currently 2,697 test practice centres and all will be converted into free teaching centres from May 2019.

The ministry added practice centres will meanwhile start functioning from September 8 and this may sound as a bad news for private coaching centres which charge a handsome fee from students.

The centres will be perfect for students coming from rural and semi-urban centres. Initially NTA will welcome aspirants to appear for a mock test for JEE 2019 which is scheduled in January. Students can register through a mobile app or website of the agency to sit for mock tests for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-UG (NEETUG) and the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET).

Students will thereafter analyze their performance with NTA mentors and work on how to rectify their mistakes at these centres.

Following the first set of exams the teaching component will be rolled out at the centres.

According to HRD ministry official, “For the time being, the practice centres will allow candidates to take mock tests for JEEMain only. As NEET-UG is not a computer-based test currently, there will be no mock test.”

NTA said a helpful mobile app will be launched soon to assist students in finding a centre closest to their locations.
