OMG! South China Sea’s Woody Island Got A High-Tech Cinema

The disputed South China Sea Island has got some entertainment to offer. Beijing’s state-run media reports a high-tech cinema has been build up for movie lovers.

The report adds more than 200 people attended a screening of a movie on Saturday.

Operated by Hainan Film Company, the Yongxing Island cinema is equipped with the latest technology including a 3-D perforated screen and 4K resolution.

Locally the set-up is known as China’s southernmost cinema even though the South China Sea is the most fraught territorial dispute in Asia.

Known internationally as Woody Island, the Yongxing Island is the largest of the Paracel Islands and is part of the South China Sea, which is claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam too apart from China simultaneously.

In recent years the disputes over geographically useful region have become theme of diplomacy and in 2016 an international court in The Hague even rejected most of regions claimed by China.

However, China has dismissed the condemnation and been working to build up its presence on the isolated islands. Last year it moved advanced surface-to-air missiles to the Yongxing Island.

China has earlier said to be building up a livable city on the island for its people and is learned to be soon building up schools and hospitals. It is setting up 4G mobile signal tower too.

Meanwhile, the movie screened on Saturday was ‘The Eternity of Jiao Yulu,’ a documentary on the life of a Chinese Communist Party politician who died in the 1960s.
