Owaisi asks Mamata how BJP grabbed 18 of 42 seats in Bengal

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo for ignoring the plight of Muslims in the state. He tweeted, “It’s not religious extremism to say that Bengal’s Muslims have one of the worst human development indicators of any minority.”

He was responding to her recent comment during a rally in Coochbehar. She warned people against minority extremism that has root in Hyderabad.

Mamata Banerjee warned the crowd in TMC workers’ rally not to listen to the Hyderabad-based minority extremism. She was in fact referring to Owaisi’s party and his leaders.

Owaisi questioned the ability of Mamata in tackling her opponents in West Bengal and pointed to the Lok Sabha 2019 election results in which BJP grabbed 18 of 42 seats.

If believed to political observers Mamata is playing a desperate card to win over the Hindu votes and majority of the population in Coochbehar is of Bengali and Rajbanshi.

This is the first time Mamata has made any reference to minority extremism and this is something significant that she is trying to woo Hindu voters amid expansionist BJP and Owaisi too making inroads in WB where she had cultivated Muslim support.

Mamata also warned the party workers against BJP’s effort to reassure Hindu refugees about their safety under the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill.

She said, “CAB is a hoax. It struck them after 19 lakh Bengalis, non-Bengalis, Gorkhas in Assam could not make it to the final NRC list. Now they are talking of the CAB when people under the CAB will be treated as non-citizens for six years.”
