P. Chidambaram to be quizzed by ED until month-end

A Delhi court allowed Enforcement Directorate Thursday to quiz former finance minister P. Chidambaram with a note that he be taken to AIIMS hospital on urgent basis if he faces any medical complication.

The other conditions of P. Chidambaram’s custody are to remain same and he will continue getting home-cooked food.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal had requested the court 2-day interim bail for the 74-year-old for treatment in Hyderabad citing his deteriorating health in the Tihar jail.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed saying curtial of 7-day custodial interrogation would be a serious miscarriage of justice. He added that ED has documentary evidence against the sernior Congress leader for having connection to money laundering.

He countered that pace of P. Chidambaram has lately decreased and so more time is required by the ED to confront him with witnesses and other evidence.

Sibal said P Chidambaram is ill and need to be treated by his own doctor in Hyderabad.

He added, “Let him go and see his doctor and he will cooperate in the investigation after he comes back.”
