Padmavati Banned In Poll-Bound Gujarat

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati movie has been officially banned in poll-bound state Gujarat after Chief Minister Vijay Rupani declared his government would not allow the release.

The CM confirmed ban is not limited to the assembly polls, but till controversies subside.

Rupani added even though he has not seen the Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer movie but several people have expressed anguish and anger against it.

Several organizations including Karni Sena across India have opposed Padmavati’s release.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan had earlier said even if the movie gets censor board certification, he would not allow the release in his state.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said director Bhansali should be responsible for hurting sentiments of the Rajput community through his movie.

Rajasthan counterpart said her government is seeking some edits in the movie so that objectionable sequences are removed.

Rupani said, “There is a lot of sensitivity in Kshatriya and Rajput communities with regards to certain depiction of history.”
