Pakistan stands with Kashmiris: Imran Khan

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan assured Kashmiri people in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir support of his government in the struggle for self-determination following strip of Article 370 from Indian Constitution.

On the day of Pakistan’s independence he visited the region and stated, “Today we are saddened by the plight of our Kashmiri brothers in occupied Jammu and Kashmir who are victims of Indian oppression.”

Later today Imran Khan is expected to address the state assembly in Muzaffarabad and Al Jazeera reports he may tell to the politicians of the Pakistan-administered Kashmir that Islamabad stands shoulder to shoulder with the Kashmiris.

The report added Pakistan announced not to celebrate the independence day but be muted in solidarity with the people in Indian side of Kashmir.

Addressing a flag hoisting ceremony Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi said India’s downgrading of special status of Kashmir is a violation of international law.

Arif Alvi added, “(Pakistan) will not leave Kashmiri people alone… Kashmiris are our. We think of their pain as our pain. We have remained with them, we are with them today.”

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir governor said restrictions on freedom of movement of people in Kashmir would be eased after August 15.

A 57-year-old protestor Arshad Iqbal said in Muzaffarabad, “India and Pakistan should resolve Kashmir without war… War will bring more povrety and hunger. Both the countries are already in depth of backwardness.”

He participated in a procession against India.
