Pakistan to honor air force officers who shot MiG-21 jet of Abhinandan

Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman received Vir Chakra on Independence Day for his bravery in aerial strike in February this year after the Pulwama attack. The same footstep is now being followed by Pakistan. It announced the country’s top military awards for two of its air force officers – Wing Commander Muhammad Noman Ali Khan and Squadron Leader Hasan Mahmood Siddiqui.

The two officers will be awarded with Sitara-i-jur’at and Tamgha-i-Jur’at, the third-highest military award and fourth-highest military honor respectively in Pakistan.

Wing Commander Muhammad Noman Ali Khan will be conferred with Sitara-i-Jur’at. He downed the Varthaman’s MiG-21 Bison jet of India on February 27 in Pakistani territory.

Squadron Leader Hasan Mahmood Siddiqui will receive Tamgha-i-Jur’at award.

The two officers will be honored on March 23, following Pakistan Day parade in Islamabad.

Abhinandan Varthaman’s MiG-21 Bison jet was shot down while he was chasing Pakistani aircraft that entered the Indian airspace. He was captured and later released on March 1, after more than 60 hours.

Days before the aerial combat between the two nations, India claimed to have struck training camp of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad terror organiztion.

India blamed JeM to be behind the terror attack of February 14 in Kashmir’s Pulwama that killed more than forty paramilitary army.
