Pakistan violates ceasefire amid Abhinandan’s release

Pakistan Army shelled heavily in the areas near to Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday amid an important day for India when Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Vartaman is set to be released by Pakistan.

This is the eighth consecutive day the neighboring country has violated ceasefire. Firing and mortar shelling continued whole night and Indian Army retaliated strongly.

An Indian Army official said, “Pakistani troops resorted to firing and mortar shelling along the LoD in Krishnagati sector of Poonch district and it ended around 0130 hours.”

The official continued that heavy guns including Howitzer 105 mm were used by the Pakistan’s side in civilian areas. A woman was injured in the firing.

A day before a woman was killed in the firing in six sectors along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts. Indian Army retaliated effectively.

In the period of past one week the Pakistan Army is claimed to have violated ceasefire for more than sixty times and more than 70 civilians were targeted along the LoC in Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu and Baramulla districts of the state.

In 2018 the Pakistan Army violated 2,936 times the ceasefire. It was highest in past fifteen years.

Ceasefire agreement was signed between the two neighboring nations in 2003.
