Paris Tour – Sun Rise At Notre Dame, Head To Champs Elysees

Watch the Sun Rise at Notre Dame

Arguably one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world, and famous for its mythical hunchback, created by Victor Hugo, Notre Dame is situated in the historical centre of Paris. The first stone was laid by Pope Alexander III in 1163, and has been the scene of many historical moments from the trial of Joan of Arc for heresy in 1455 to Charles de Gaulle risking German sniper fire to give thanks for the imminent liberation of france by the allies in August 1944. After exploring the crypts, the many chapels and marvelling at the stained glass windows, walk the 387 steps up the tower to the top of Notre Dame for a breathtaking view of the city.

Head to the Champs Elysees

Just as all roads lead to Rome, so in Paris they all seem to lead to the Champs Elysees with the Arc de Triompe at one end and La Defense at the other. The triumphal arch dates back to 1806, and was commissioned by Napolean to celebrate the many victories of the French army. The impressive modernist structure of La Defense was built in 1931, but takes its name from a previous monument ‘La Coeur Défense de Paris’ which was on the site commemorating the war of 1870. Shopping on the Champs Elysees is also an absolute pleasure, with a wonderful mix of boutiques, luxury gift shops, chain stores and restaurants, so is a must for any touring shopaholic.
