Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf (retd) accepted Wednesday Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) of Masood Azhar was a terror outfit.

Talking over a phone in an interview to Pakistani journalist Nadeem Malik of Hum Nes the 75-year-old indicated intelligence of Pakistan used the JeM in carrying out attacks in India when he was the president.

Currently in Dubai, the general welcomed action taken by Pakistan government against the terror group and disclosed he tried assassinating Masood Azhar twice in late 2003.

JeM launched attack in Pulwama district of Kashmir valley on February 14 adn claimed responsibility. Forty CRPF personnel were killed in the suicide explosives laden vehicle attack.

In February Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi accepted Masood Azhar was in Pakistan and the government could only act against him following India provides acceptable proof that could stand in a court of law.

Pakistan authorities detained 44 members of the JeM including Masood Azhar’s son and brother after immense pressure from international community.

Musharraf said, “This is a good move. I have always said that the JeM is a terrorist organisation and they only had carried out a suicide attack in an attempt to assassinate me. Action should be taken against them.”

The former president ruled the country from 1999 to 2008 and currently facing treason case for suspending the Constitution in 2007. In 2014 he was indicted for the offence. Since 2016 he is living in Dubai.
