Polls in Dantewada will be held as scheduled even after Naxal attack: EC

Election Commission confirmed Tuesday pollings in Chhattisgarh”s Bastar Lok Sabha constituency will be held as scheduled even after a deadly attack by Naxals on killing Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Bheema Mandavi from Dantewada, three police officers and a driver.

Elections is due in Phase 1 on April 11 in the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency under the security of more than 80,000 personnel and many drones in and around the region.

Bheema Mandavi was deputy leader of the Opposition in Chhattisgarh assembly. In 2018 he defeated “Bastar Tiger” Mahendra Karma’s wife and current legislator Devi Karma.

CRPF said, “Between Kuakonta and Syamgiri in Dantewada, the convoy of BJP MLA Bheema Mandavi came under an IED attack today. The escort vehicle of State Police came under the blast. 5 personnel of Chhattisgarh State Police are critically injured. Reinforcement of CRPF has been rushed.”

The three police officers killed are District Force jawans Chhagan Kuldeep, Somdu Kawasi and Ramlal Oyami, and the driver is identified as Danteshwar Maurya.

The leaders were traveling for the Lok Sabha elections and at the time of attack the convoy was between Kuakonta and Shyamgiri in Dantewada. The state police escorting Mandavi’s vehicle too came under the powerful attack.
