Posters in Delhi mockingly welcomes Mamata Banerjee for opposition rally

The poster war has just begun ahead of the Lok Sabha 2019 elections following row between Bharatiya Janata Party and Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal last month over landing spot of BJP president Amit Shah’s helicopter before the Malda rally.

Banerjee a.k.a. Didi landed in Delhi on Tuesday to take part in an Opposition rally called by Aam Aadmi Party – “Tanashahi Hatao, Loktantra Bachao.”

The West Bengal Chief Minister organized a similar rally in Kolkata earlier to show opposition strength.

Hoardings carrying tongue-in-cheek messages could be seen at several places in the capital in English as well as Hindi. One of the posters put up by Youth for Democracy read, “Didi, smile to your heart’s content, you are in a democracy.”

Another poster read, “Didi no one is going to prevent you from addressing people here.” This is in reference to the denied permission to several BJP leaders for holding meetings and events in her state. In one of the denial Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath was forced to address the people telephonically in South Dinajpur.

Permission to the much-publicized rath yatras of BJP was also denied in West Bengal.

“Welcome to Delhi, where democracy is alive and kicking, Didi,” read one hoarding.

The banners can be seen in places like Banga Bhawan, Jantar Mantar road and Windsor Palace Circle Area.

Banerjee is often accused by BJP of stifling democracy in the state. Lately, union minister Giriraj Singh compared her with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
