Enough is enough. The hearings in Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute in Ayodhya will not take place from tomorrow. CJI Ranjan Gogoi said the deadline to wrap up is 5 pm today and it is expected the court may read verdict on November 17.

The advocate for Ram Lalla Virajman said Tuesday the disputed land is birth place of Lord Ram and Hindus have struggled for centuries for the place while Muslims could pray at any mosque out of about fifty in Ayodhya.

Senior advocate K Parasaran said, “But for Hindus, it is the birthplace of Lord Ram. We can’t change the birthplace.”

After a week-long break for Dussehra festival the apex court resumed hearings on Monday and meanwhile the Uttar Pradesh government has banned gathering of people in Ayodhya as a preventive measure to avoid trouble in anticipation of the verdict.

The daily hearings by five-judge Constitution bench headed by Ranjan Gogoi started on August 6 after no amicable solution could be reached by the mediation proceedings to the disputed land of Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid.

According to Hindu believe, the disputed land is birthplace of Lord Ram and the 16th century Babri Masjid was later built on the ruins of an ancient temple. In December 1992 it was razed by right-wing activists and riots were sparked across India.

Several times earlier the mediation attempts failed to end up with a comfortable solution to the disputes between Hindus and Muslims.
