RBI To Introduce Rs 200 Notes In Circulation

A notification in the Gazette of India reveals soon new Rs 200 notes will be in circulation to bridge gap between Rs 100 and Rs 500 notes.

It is learned the printing process of Rs 200 notes is almost completed and Reserve Bank of India believes it to become a very popular denomination.

Very lately RBI disclosed new-look of Rs 50 note too detailing the new security highlights on it.

Under Modi government the RBI has already introduced new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 after massive currency culling exercise in November 2016. The Rs 200 note would be fourth new note.

RBI To Introduce Rs 200 Notes In Circulation

RBI noted the old Rs 50 notes will remain in circulation.

In a press statement the central bank said RBI will introduce Rs 50 notes soon in the Mahatma Gandhi Series equipped with a motif of Hampi with chariot on the reverse and signature of RBI Governor Urijit R Patel. It will be Fluorescent Blue in color and to depict the cultural heritage of India.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley confirmed the Modi government is currently not considering withdrawing of the Rs 2000 notes and it will be decided after bringing to circulation the new Rs 200 notes.

The Modi government banned older notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 late last year amid demonetizing policy to curb black money and dummy economy in the country.
