Reddit has always been a favorite place for people who look for expressing thoughts and ideas freely no matter how controversial. Such an openness has also made it a platform of harassment.

To curb the wrong part of the forum, Reddit has come up with a new tool to allow users block other accounts.

Earlier, the social company launched blocking feature that focused on the direct messaging tool.

Reddit briefs once a user blocks account of another user, the profile, messages as well as the comments of the person won’t be visible to the person who deployed the block.

The better part of the new tool is its silent feature which means the person who is blocked will not be aware about it.

The openness of Reddit has always been under controversy. Some users even used the platform in trading explicit photos of celebrities.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian said earlier the platform “should be a place where anyone can pull up their soapbox and speak their mind.”

Last summer it announced the soapbox did come with few rules. The San Francisco-based company started restricting objectionable content such as sexually suggestive content featuring minors, harassment or comments inciting violence.
