Samsung Claims Top Spot in Indian Smartphone Market: IDC
The leading Korean electronics giant Samsung is the top Smartphone seller in India, according to a report by research firm IDC. Samsung has a market share of 24% for Smartphone in India and it is closely followed by Micromax at 10%. Samsung is a very popular Smartphone product among many Indians and the popularity of this company has made it claim the top spot in the Smartphone market in India.
The Samsung brand of Phones has been in India for a longer period than any other popular brand of mobile phone sold in India now. Micromax is slowly but surely catching up with Samsung as far as sales of its Smartphones are concerned. But, there is more that the company needs to do to get even closer or beat Samsung as India’s number one Smartphone seller. The third position according to IDC, is held by Lava at 8%.
IDC says that Samsung has seen a shipment growth in the third quarter of 2014, but it is at a low when compared to the industry average. The research findings of IDC place Karbonn and Lava a third spot with a 8 % market share, but more than 85% of the shipments carried out by Karbonn mobiles is done for handsets that are priced under $100.
Lava’s feature rich phones have done well in the third quarter of this year. This will help Lava to clinch the fourth position in the overall mobile phone sales. IDC says that Motorola is also making massive strides in Smartphone business in India and it currently holds the fifth position with 5%.
IDC research points that 23.3 million smartphones were shipped in the third quarter of 2014. India is reported to be the fastest growing mobile phone market in the Asia Pacific region. There is a 27% quarter to quarter growth seen by Smartphones in India and the year on year growth rate touches a whopping 82%. The smartphones with screen size between 4.5 inches and 5.5 inches seem to be the most popular among Smartphone buffs in India.
The consumers love to use big screen phones to enjoy the best media content and also to enjoy 2G and 3G services. With 4G all set to roll out in 2015, there is going to be a huge demand for phablets in India from 2015 says IDC research manager of clients division Mr. Kiran Kumar. The overall mobile phone market for the third quarter also sees Samsung grabbing the pole position closely followed by Micromax in the second position this quarter.
