The fate of PM biopic is not clear following stay order imposed by the Election Commission on April 10 on its release, but there’s a hope and producers of the movie has moved to Supreme Court against it.

EC cited the movie would disturb the level of playing field between parties during elections.

The biopic was scheduled to be released on April 11 and was to coincide with first phase of Lok Sabha elections. Amid model code of conduct the EC placed a blanket ban on release of such movies including one on NTR.

A three-judge bench led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi will be hearing plea of producers on Monday.

EC said, “Any biopic material in the nature of biography, hagiography sub-serving the purposes of any political entity or individual connected to it, which is intended to or has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections, should not be displayed in the electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of the model code of conduct.”

Congress had earlier alleged the producers of PM biopic were affiliated to the ruling party.

Forty-seven retired civil servants earlier argued the biopic would create enormous electoral mileage for Modi and his BJP in power.

A letter by them to EC reads, “It is, therefore, necessary to examine whether the release of this biopic after the announcement of elections and the coming into force of the MCC [Model Code of Conduct] is consonant with the principles of a free and fair election.”
