Shankar’s Academy Launches New Design Programme

New Delhi, 8th June 2016: Web Designing will be a part of the Diploma in Art, Book Illustration and Computer Graphics at Shankar’s Academy of Art and Book Illustrations, a project of Children’s Book Trust (CBT). Children Book Trust was founded 59 years ago by the renowned political cartoonist Mr. K. Shankar Pillai, popularly known as Shankar.

Shankar’s Academy of Art and Book Illustrations was established by CBT in 1991 as homage to Shankar.

The Academy has just 25 seats for this exclusive course for which industry experts and professionals have a great regard. The classes are held at the Academy between 6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

Illustration is an integral part of every book right from the picture books, comics, information books, text books, fiction to coffee table books and other publications. Publishing, advertising, media houses are always on the lookout for good illustrators.

Children’s Book Trust which has been a pioneer in publishing illustrated children’s books in the country fulfills the need for professionally qualified illustrators through its Academy. With an active placement cell it sees to it that its Diploma holders do not face any dearth of opportunities. This course is best suited for candidates who have an interest in arts and love for literature. All top picture book illustrators have illustrated for CBT like Pulak Biswas, Jagdish Joshi, Tapas Guha, Subir Roy and Shankar himself.

While speaking about the importance of the course Mr. Ravi Shankar, General Manager, Children’s Book Trust said, “Book illustration is a very innovative and creative area for the young generation to explore. Book illustration as a form of art has gained prominence over the recent years with the mushrooming of publishers all over the country. This course has been designed in such a manner that the students with a Diploma from the institute would have requisite qualification to join the industry at the culmination of the program.”

Over the period of two years the students will be guided towards proficiency in the following aspects of the course: Basic Drawing, Outdoor Sketches, Colour, Perspective, Digital art, Handling of narrative text, Web Designing, etc.

Shankar’s Academy provides skilled expertise in this art at a very reasonable cost and a comfortable timing. The minimum eligibility to apply for the course is intermediate certification, but working professionals and industry experts can also pursue this course to enhance their skills which makes this course very appealing. Children can continue with their regular education in addition to joining this course.

The last date to apply for the course is July 16, 2016. The classes will be held in evening at Nehru House, Delhi.
