Starlink Satellites Launched; SpaceX Hopes Providing Broadband Internet Worldwide By 2024

SpaceX owns constellation of thousands of communications satellites and the company claims in about six years time they would be able to provide worldwide broadband internet access.

SpaceX had announced of its Starlink project in January 2015 and propose to be launching up to 12,000 of small communications satellites in low Earth orbit to operate within the microwave band of the electromagnetic spectrum focusing on providing broadband internet anywhere.

Communications satellites currently are stationed in geostationary orbit and have high latency and so a light-speed signal takes 0.23 seconds for a round trip.

Meanwhile, FCC reveals the rocket company aims at launching more than four thousand satellites by 2024 and later another 7,000 in a much lower orbit.

SpaceX has not yet revealed how deorbit the satellites after the end of their useful life to avoid unmanageable pile of space junk.

The closer rivals to SpaceX companies like Boeing, Facebook, Samsung, and OneWeb in focusing on similar internet access service providing across the world.
