Sumitra Mahajan not contesting from Indore

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said Friday will not be contesting the upcoming elections as the party is hesitant in announcing candidate name for Indore seat.

The 76-year-old added in her statement Bharatiya Janata Party should take a decision without any hesitation and with free heart.

She further said the party seems to be dilemma over fielding her and so she makes BJP free and make choice by not contesting the Lok Sabha elections.

Mahajan said, “There were speculations and so I decided to end them and free the party to make its choice. I will not contest Lok Sabha elections.”

Meanwhile, it is true the party has not fielded many veterans who are above 75 years of age and among them includes Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi.

The Speaker said she didn’t seek ticket from the city in 1989 when she first contested Lok Sabha elections.

After Congress’Meira Kumar she is the second woman MP to become Lok Sabha Speaker.

Sumitra Mahajan not contesting from Indore

Indore will go into polls in the last phase on May 19 and the party is delaying announcement of candidate.

However, it is learned BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, Indore Mayor and MLA Malini Gaud or Madhya Pradesh legislator Usha Thakur could be the name for Indore.
