The decision of apex court comes as a setback to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders who were favoring for speedy hearing and disposal of the case considering the upcoming general elections in 2019.

The Chief Justice of India (CJI) said, “We will fix the date of hearing of Ayodhya dispute case before the appropriate bench in January.”

The Allahabad high court judgement had earlier considered the Babri Masjid Ram Janmabhoomi as land dispute case and its verdict divided the disputed land of 2.27 acres into three parts – the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

Earlier, on September 27, the court said civil suit on land dispute would be heard on October 29 by a three-judge bench.

It then declined to refer reconsideration of the 1994 judgment that a mosque was not integral to Islam. The issue was had arisen during Ayodhya land dispute hearing.

Expressing disagreement Uttar Pradesh chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the adjournment does not send a good message.
