Terrorist Truck Kills 80 In Nice, France, During French Day Celebration
The seaside city of Nice in France was attacked Thursday night by terrorist driven truck loaded with explosives and weapons rammed through a crowd killing at least 80 people and injuring several others.
In past few years such attacks have been common in the country. First it was a magazine office attack and thereafter a Kosher food market. Last year, attacks were at a concert venue, a terrace restaurant and football stadium.
As of now it is not very clear who was behind the attack in Nice during a Bastille Day celebration, a French national holiday.
Nice has some of the beautiful beaches and are tourist hotspot. With the latest attack it is again questioned: Why France again?
Thousands were on the streets celebrating the day with fireworks and a beachfront concert. A large white truck started firing into the crowd first and then drove through horrified tourists. The driver drove for over a mile before police shot him. Several children too were killed in the attack.
French President Francois Hollande described the killings as a terrorist attack and said to be visiting Nice on Friday. He called an emergency meeting too at the Interior Ministry in Paris.
Former FBI assistant director Tom Fuentes said homegrown terrorism is a major concern in Europe.
