The Great Indian Breakfast – Light, Quick and Healthy

The term breakfast is made up by combining two words “break” and “fast”. Given the genesis of the word, it implies that the breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, thanks to our modern lifestyle, we often skip this meal. The paucity of time and the struggle to get up early is making it quite difficult for us to prepare breakfast in the morning.

But it’s time to put all breakfast woes to rest, and try the following awesome Indian breakfast recipes that you can make with a little preparation in advance.

Moong Dal Chila or Pesarattu

Traditionally, chila is made from chickpea flour. But if you are in the pursuit of health, try making this delicacy from moong dal for breakfast. All you need to do is soak a small cup of whole moong dal overnight. Next morning, throw the soaked dal, couple of green chillies, bunch of coriander leaves, small piece of ginger and salt to taste in the food processor to grind it to a smooth paste. Now, spread the batter on a non-stick griddle and cook both sides till it turns light brown. Savour the chilas with some green chutney.

To make morning breakfast an easy affair, you can even store the batter and use it for a couple of days.

Fruity Lassi

Fruity lassi or a smoothie is a powerhouse of nutrition. But you should know how to prepare it the right way. For starters, do not pack it with sugar. Use naturally sweet fruits like Mango, Banana, Chikoo or Blueberries to sweeten your lassi. In case you are calorie conscious, then go for low-fat yoghurt to prepare the smoothie in a food processor. You can also use coconut or soya milk to prepare the smoothie, if you are not a huge fan of dairy.

The best thing about smoothies or lassis are that you can devour them on the go. Fill up a mason jar or a leak-proof container with your favourite smoothie or lassi and have it while travelling to work.
