Torrentz Search Engine Is Dead

The largest search engine for torrents has shut down forever after last week’s shut down of Kickass Torrents (KAT) by the US authorities.

However, the site is still running unlike the KAT, but its search feature is no more working as before. Clicking on the search box opens up to a new window equipped with advertisements for businesses related to the Alibaba Group.

Earlier, a message was seen under the search box as “Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines.”

Now the message is changed and it writes, “Torrentz will always love you. Farewell.”

As the website is still operational, it cannot be assumed the development was due to any legal action. It is to note here that torrents are usually linked with illegal filesharing as users are allowed to share content on their own computers with others on the platform.

Sites like KAT had no illegal content, but allowed users to download and location of files were pointed to their computers.

Torrentz is based in Poland and was founded in 2003. Initially it hosted torrent files but later was developed into a torrent search engine.
