UN Security Council appreciates India’s move on Kashmir

The United Nations Security Council appreciated the move taken by India for Jammu and Kashmir and India’s Permanent Representation at the institution said Article 370 has been recognized on the international platform as an internal matter of the country.

Meanwhile, Center has taken measures to relax restrictions in Kashmir by facilitating landline phone calll service.

Syed Akbaruddin added, “The UN Security Council acknowledged these efforts (by India) and felt this is the direction in which the international community wanted matters to move. We are committed to gradually removing all restrictions.”

Jammu and Kashmir government said communication services will be restored in the Valley in phases and schools will be opened Monday onwards.

Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam confirmed phone lines in Kashmir Valley will be restored over the weekend.

Government stripped Article 370 on August 5 from the Indian Constitution to take away special status provided to Jammu and Kashmir, which was also bifurcated in two union territories – Ladakh and J&K.

The Valley was locked down following the move as a preventive measure. Phone lines and internet connections were cut off.

Home ministry officials said security apparatus along the Kashmir border is on high alert.

Subrahmanyam said yesterday, “After today’s Friday prayers, immediate reports suggest that things have gone off quite peacefully right throughout the state… We have prevented any loss of human life despite concerted efforts by terrorist organizations, radical groups and continuing efforts by Pakistan to destablize the situation.”
