VideoLAN Released VLC App For Windows 10

The much awaited VLC media player for Windows 10 has finally arrived. A beta version of it was released on Wednesday.

VideoLAN said the new VLC Windows 10 app supports large number of formats like the classic version of it. It has all the features that is available for the Android and iOS and is added with some extrea goodies too.

VideoLAN President Jean-Baptiste Kempf said they have used some exclusive technologies for the Windows 10 such as using DirectX 11.1 features for video and low-latency audio to result with enhanced battery life and smooth 4K playback.

Apart from these, the app also supports specific Windows 10 features like Live Tiles, Cortana voice commands, ability to pin artists and albums to Start Menu as well as Continuum for Lumia 950 or Lumia 950XL devices.

Currently the new VLC app to work on Windows 10 desktops, tablets and mobile devices only. Later it will be made available to Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 as well.

In near future the app may also arrive to Xbox One, HoloLens and Surface Hub devices after some remaining issues are worked out at the developers end.

Xbox One version is said to be releasing this summer.
