Following the launch in China the Redmi 5 and all-new Redmi 5 Plus has not hit the Malaysian shelves. It is expected Xiaomi may soon launch the same in India too.

Redmi 5 is the successor of Redmi 4 while the Plus version is a new entrant. Both are the first Redmi smartphones to offer 18:9 aspect ratio.

About pricing part the phones start from MYR 679 in Malaysia and are being available through the retailer Direct D. Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch 18:9 display with HD+ (1440 x 720 pixels) resolution while the elder version comes with a 5.99-inch display with Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution. The smaller sibling is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU and 2GB/3GB of RAM.

The Redmi 5 Plus comes with a Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor equipped with both a 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. Storage can be expanded with the help of a MicroSD card slot.

The phones are mounted with a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and 5MP selfie lens. Both are mounted with a 3,300mAh and 4,000mAh battery respectively.

In terms of connectivity the phones have options of 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port.

In India, however, Xiomi may launch Redmi Note 5 instead of Redmi 5 Plus as the Redmi Note 4 was the most popular budget phone last year in the country.
