Apple Hires Carnegie Mellon Professor To Develop AI

Apple seems to be focusing more on Artificial Intelligence (AI) now as it has hired Carnegie Mellon University professor Ruslan Salakhutdinov as director of AI research, which looks like a newly minted position.

The professor announced today through Twitter his new position.

Salakhutdinov has dozens of papers published to his credit and works in deep learning as well as neural networks fields. Hi main research is human-like understanding of various media like recognizing objects in images.


In his Twitter message Salakhutdinov also linked an open position at the iDevice giant for people who is looking to joining his team and PhD is the minimum requirement for the post.

Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook said to be establishing a research lab in Yokohama and the facility is learned to be completely dedicated to researching AI, which he described as horizontal in nature.
