Babul Supriyo secures berth in Modi’s cabinet

Babul Supriyo secured his berth in Narendra Modi’s cabinet with his sworn-in at the Rashtrapati Bhawan Thursday evening.

The 48-year-old singer-turned-politician was Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Sector Enterprises in the first Narendra Modi government.

In March 2014 he fielded his political career first and won the Asansol seat then in the Lok Sabha elections with Bharatiya Janata Party ticket defeating Trinamool Congress bigwig Dola Sen by 72,956 votes.

In November 2014 he was inducted as the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

Supriyo’s portfolio was changed on 12 July 2016 and became Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections he won for the second time the Asansol constituency seat defeating TMC’s Moon Moon Sen with 1.97 lakh votes.
