Defence minister Rajnath Singh said the decision of Rahul Gandhi to resign triggered the resignation of MLAs in Karnataka.

He was responding to the Congress’s charge that Bharatiya Janata Party was poaching the Congress MLA in the assembly.

Rajnath Singh said, “Whatever is happening currently in Karnataka, we have no relation with that.”

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury raised the issue in the House during zero hour.

It was alleged that BJP was hatching a conspiracy to break down the Karnataka assembly.

Rebutting the charge the BJP leader added that the series of resignations were initiated by Rahul Gandhi and he had asked his party leaders to do the same.

Singh said it is well known that several veteran leaders of Congress have lately resigned and this has continued. It is not understood why his party is being blamed for the actions of Congress leaders.

Singh added that BJP has nothing to do with what is happening in the Karnataka assembly.

The leader further continued, “If you look at the history of our party, BJP has never indulged in horse trading or tried to build pressure on rival party MLAs or MPs. Our party is committed to protect dignity of the parliamentary democracy.”
