Bharatiya Janata Party leaders filed a complaint against Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed on Tuesday with Election Commission officials alleging he cannot campaign for an Indian political party in India’s national elections.

Ahmed was seen campaigning for Trinamool Congress candidate Kanhaiyalal Agarwal at Raigunj constituency in West Bengal on Sunday. He was accompanied by two Indian Bengali actors Ankush and Payal.

BJP leader JP Majumdar said, “We understand that foreign nationals can’t participate in the electioneering process in India. When TMC is using Bangladeshi nationals (actor Ferdous) for campaigning, they are breaking the rules. He should be arrested for breach of visa rules.”

The filed complain adds the three regional celebrities participated in a roadshow from Karandighi to Islampur in Raigunj constituency.

The Bangladeshi actor took the stage too after the roadshow and addressed to the audience urging people to cast their votes in favor of TMC.

TMC senior leader and minister Madan Mitra defended the party’s decision asserting it will not do anything that is illegal, anti-national or violates model code of conduct.

TMC is also fielding actors like Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
