Chidambaram complains back pain in Tihar

Former Union Minister P Chidambaram complains of his deteriorating health being in Tihar Jail at a CBI court in Delhi on September 19.

He said the jail authorities have taken away the chair he was using in the cell and he has not been given a pillow to sleep.

P Chidambaram is in Tihar Jail since September 5 after being indicted in the INX Media corruption case.

He was arrested by the CBI and initially was sent to a 14-day judicial custody that was later extended to October 3.

The ex-finance minister said, “There were chairs outside the room, I used to sit there during the day, now that too is withdrawn. Because I was using it, they have taken it away, now even the warden is without a chair.”

The minister’s advocate informed the court that the 74-year-old has developed back pain in the prison.

Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “He had a chair till three days ago. Now there is no chair and no pillow either.”

He requested the court to allow P Chidambaram get a medical check-up done from AIIMS hospital in New Delhi for his back pain complain.

The court has asked the jail superintendent to consider providing P Chidambaram with a chair and a pillow.

Meanwhile, government lawyer said it is a small issue and not to get sensationalized.
