Senior Congress leader and former union minister P Chidambaram is locked down between denial of anticipatory bail by Delhi High Court and potential custodial interrogation by probe agencies in the INX Media case.

The judge said Wednesday bail cannot be granted on the ground of being a parliamentarian.

CBI visited Chidambaram’s home in the capital Tuesday evening and returned empty handed. The parliamentarian was not there.

Meanwhile, his legal team led by Kapil Sibal is challenging the order in the apex court.

Chidambaram was the finance minister in UPA government when foreign fund of Rs 305 crore was received by INX Media in 2007.

The kickbacks were received by his son Karti Chidambaram, who is also being interrogated by CBI and ED. He was arrested in 2018 and remained in custody for 23 days.

It is alleged the minister was instrumental in providing government clearance to the television company.

Chidambaram has denied of any irregularities saying the BJP-led government is targeting him for political reasons.

Peter and Indrani Mukerjea owned INX Media during the irregularities. The two are now in jail. Both are accused having involvement in the murder of Sheena Bora, daughter of Indrani Mukerjea.
