It seems prime minister Narendra Modi has pressed the reset button with the recent expansive interview with news agency ANI. He portrayed himself as a statesman who is committed to constitutional process.

Televised on New Year Day, Modi defended his government’s record without bitterness to the opposition, even though he attacked the political organization with humility.

The PM tried to project himself as an image of a leader whose plans are based on long term polices and he addressed structural issues.

In the defensive interview Modi sought to reclaim the political narrative and reiterated his pro-poor credentials by talking about Ayushman Bharat, the welfare schemes. He tried reaching to the middle class too by pointing out how the initiatives of his government will benefit them.

Modi defended demonetization saying it was necessary to bring structural changes and about farm loan waiver he said short term sops will fail to address the conditions that paves to farm indebtedness and misery.

He also talked about the commitment of Bharatiya Janata Party to its allies and why to respect their desire.

Redefining what Congress-mukt meant, Modi said a strong opposition is required. He condemned cow vigilantism.

Talking about Ram Mandir in the interview he said the legal process is underway and it will takes its course.

Whether the interview was enough to lure the voters is not known, but the answer to this will be seen in the Lok Sabha elections.
