Indian capital New Delhi was triggered with record levels of pollution on Sunday as Hindu citizens celebrated Diwali, triumph of good over evil.

It was reported the levels of pollutants reached thirty times more than what has been recommended by World Health Organization.

The main concern now is the tiny particles, PM2.5, as those can travel to the lungs posing serious health risks after getting lodged there.

Social media circulated images showed dense smog in the city revealing alarming risk level.

Delhi-based think tank executive director said, “The levels we’re seeing are really alarming. They are clearly in the severe category.”

It is not to forget India has topped highest death rate from respiratory diseaese and a WHO report reveals the figure of 2012 as 159 deaths per 100,000 people.

Throughout the year Delhi suffers from pollution and has no room for additional pollution during such festivals as air does not blow away and the pollution gets trapped at the ground level.
