India’s Most Successful Cricket Captain MS Dhoni Steps Down From Limited Overs

India’s most successful cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down from the leadership designation of the Indian team.

Dhoni surprised fans earlier too by his sudden decision of stepping down from the captaincy of Test cricket while the team was midway through a series in Australia.

Virat Kohli is currently leading the Test team and is believed to be taking over the mantle.


India will be playing a three-match ODI series against England this month and selection committee is scheduled to meet on Friday to select the squad.

Dhoni has nodded to be available for the selection for ODI as well as T20 International series against England.

BCCi said in a released statement Dhoni has informed the body about his wish to step down as the captain of ODI and T20.

Dhoni is the only captain to win World Cup, WT20 and Champions Trophy. He is also the only player to lead more than fifty matches in each of the three formats of cricket. He has captained 331 games across formats.

Dhoni made ODI debut in late 2004 against Bangladesh in Chittagong and was run out for 0. His first match as captain was in September 2007 against Scotland in ICC World Twenty20 opener. His first ODI series win as captain was in November 2007 beating Pakistan.
