It was a much fanfare last week when Reliance launched Jio Phone, a feature phone with smartphone features. Not much has been known since then about the hardware specifications and now a company rep confirmed it will support just one SIM.

Beta trial of the new Jio Phone to kick off on August 15 and about a month later it will reach the hands of public. The pre-booking to start on August 24.

Equipped with the feature of routing voice calls via VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology, the much talked and much awaited device will only work with Jio SIM card, declining any support for Vodafone, Airtel, Idea, BSNL and that of other rivals.

Meanwhile, Airtel too has confirmed to be launching its VoLTE services soon, but it may not work on the new Jio Phone as the device probably would be sim-locked.

The representative didn’t mention anything about whether Reliance has plans of launching a double SIM support basic phone in near future.

The new device is to sport a 2.4-inch screen with QVGA display and to come equipped with a microSSD card support, FM radio, torchlight and an alphanumeric keypad. It will be capable of playing music via Jio Music and to support voice commands too.

It is further learned the phone to have a panic button and to support 22 different Indian languages.
