Jio’s Offer Is Not Anti-Competitive: CCI

The question still arises among several of us who understands competition and believes in healthy competition. It is asked whether offers made by Jio are anti-competitive.

The anti-trust regulator said the free voice and free data offered by the telecom company.

A complaint about Relaince Jio Infocomm was filed very recently by Bharti Airtel.

The anti-trust regulator of the country rejected the complaint of Airtel saying the Jio had engaged in predatory pricing and had entered the market with temporary offers of free voice and free data.”

Competition Commission of India (CCI) said the offers currently made by the unit of Reliance Industries didn’t had a dominant position in the country and also was preventing offers from offering similar services.

CCI published an order on its official website today that read, “Free services cannot by itself raise competition concerns unless the same is offered by a dominant enterprise and shown to be tainted with an anti-competitive objective of excluding competition/competitors.”

The entry of Jio in the mobile service provider segment has pushed rivals to lower prices and this has resulted in the decline of profits.

By the end of March 2017 Jio managed in getting 72 million customers who paid under the Prime plan.
