The changes for Kashmir is historic and it will also open up a new door for development in the two newly created union territories – Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, said state Governor Satya Pal Malik on Thursday.

The Governor hoisted national flag amid tight vigil and security in Srinagar’s Sher-e-Kashmir stadium and it was the first Independence Day celebration in Jammu and Kashmir since the strip of Article 370 from the Indian Constitution that provides special status to the state on August 5.

Malik assured people not to worry about their identity following the changes made in Indian Constitution for the state and it will bring development of the people.

Addressing to the gathering he said, “Terrorists have accepted defeat after sustained action from armed forces. Stone-pelting incidents and recruitment in terror outfits have come down. My government is committed to the safe return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley.”

The Governor added following revocation of Article 370 a sharp decline in stone pelting incidents and terror recruitment have been noticed.

Meanwhile, curfew restrictions were eased on Wednesday in Srinagar to allow movement of vehicle and people.
