Two terrorists killed in encounter in Baramulla

Acting on specific information the security forces launched a cordon and search operation on Friday in Warpora area of Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, and killed two unidentified terrorists in an encounter.

According to Jammu and Kashmir police arms and ammunition were recovered from the site.

Identities and affiliations of the two militants are still being ascertained.

A Srinagar-based police spokesman said, “Incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, was recovered from the site of encounter.”

The police added security forces cordoned the area on February 21 night after getting credible input about presence of terrorists.

The spokesman further said, “As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.”

Local youth attempted to attack security forces by pelting stones. They were countered by tear smoke shells and internet too was stopped in the area as a precautionary measure.

Earlier this week key Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist who was believed to have masterminded the February 14 Pulwama suicide attack, one of the deadliest in India, that killed 44 CRPF jawans was shot dead in another encounter that went for more than 12 hours in the district.

Another militant, Hilal Ahmed, a local Kashmiri bomb specialist was killed too in the overnight encounter.

Late last week India announced withdrawal of the Most Favored Nation status for Pakistan and with immediate effect raised customs duty of Pakistan imports by 200 percent.

The weekly Poonch-Rawalakot bus service was suspended too.
